Milan Design Week / We are showing new items with Established & Sons (UK), Karimoku New Standards (JP), Tamawa (BE) and SCP (UK). Established & Sons (UK) will be launching a new memeber in the Torch Series -The Super Torch. Karimoku New Standards will be showing additions to the Homerun range, a child's version of the Homerun chair, a stool and some paperweights for their accessory range. Tamawa will display the new Ray suspension lighting. And SCP will show the recently launched Slide mirrors for the first time in Milan.
London Design Museum / The CLS was nominated for the Brit Insurance Design Awards 2011amongts 90 nominees. The Brit Insurance Designs Awards, "the Oscars of the design world," showcase the most innovative and forward thinking designs from around the world, spanning seven categories: architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product and transport.
The Freecom Mobile Drive receives multiple awards / The CLS has recieved an iF Award, a Red Dot Best of the Best Award and a Henry Van de Velde Award
Originally designed in 2007, the Slide mirrors are now produced by British manufacturer SCP. SCP will launch and present the Slide mirrors this month at the New York International Gift Fair, then in September at Maison & Objet in Paris and in their London store for the London Design Festival.
In July, Freecom (DE/NL) will release a new hard drive called the CLS, Collect Label and Store. This hard drive will enable its user to easily classify data, music, films, etc... by simply inserting on the side of the drive itself a hand written or typed label. The CLS will be accompanied with various accessories, including a dock for 3 drives, a cable, a case and replacement labels.
Sylvain Willenz will be showing new works with Established & Sons (UK) (Print Lights) at La Pelota, 10 via Palermo and the new Homerun Chairs with new Japanese company Karimoku New-Standards (JP) at Galleria Suzy Shammah, Via San Fermo / Via Moscova, 25.
"Feel Home" at Centre Culturel Strombeek: Exhibition from 9th April to 10th May. The exhibition will display chairs and tables from the Candy collection, along artists such as Reiner Ruthenbeck, Gordon Matta-Clark, Stev Steenhoudt, Luc Deleu, Jan De Cock, Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Donald Judd, Franz West, Fien Muller, Ron Arad, Jurgen Bey, Julien Carretero amongst others.
Sylvain Willenz has designed Lock, a new coat stand for Belgian company Tamawa (BE), showing at Maison & Objet, Paris at Now! Hall 7 Stand J2 from 22nd to 26th January 2010. Tamawa (BE) uses bakelite balls for its well-known collection of ingenious jewellery and launches several items for its home range.
Happy New Year! The exhibition OpenGrounds has ended. You can view it in the EXHIBITIONS section. The exhibition OpenGrounds at Grand-Hornu Images, Belgium, for Belgian Designer of the Year 2009, (14 October 2009 - 03 January 2010) gathered a selection of works dating back to 2002. All items were presented along a smoothly laid-out 17 meters long and 130cm high monticule of rubber granulate, resembling spoil heaps of the region of south Belgium as well as relating to Sylvain's interest for soft plastics.
New Homerun Chair for Karimoku New-Standards (JP) launched at 100% Design Tokyo. Karimoku, an well known traditional Japanese furniture has asked us to design funriture waste wood of its factory for their new collection. I designed Homerun, a chair inspired by old cartoons.
Sylvain Willenz has been selected Belgian Designer of the Year 2009 by the Interieur Foundation, the magazines Weekend Knack and Weekend Le Vif/L'Express, the Design museum Gent and Grand-Hornu Images. His Works will be featured in an exhibition in the Museum of Grand-Hornu Images, from 14th of October 2009 to 4th of January 2010.
